In the blog last week I wrote about being happy, but didn’t give any information on how you can begin to bring happiness into your life. This week, I will start to explain how you can begin to change your life.
When you’re feeling down, sit down somewhere and ponder this . . .
You’re sitting down and possibly feeling small and helpless to deal with the problem. Around you, might be a room, the room might be in a house or an apartment. If you were to go outside you might find you are in a small town, you might find you are in a city. Wherever you are, that place is part of a country. What country are you in? Do you know that the country you are in is part of a continent, which is part of a planet, this planet called Earth. You are living on a planet called Earth.
The planet you are living on is part of a galaxy . . . a galaxy called “The Milky Way.” The Milky Way galaxy is one out of billions of galaxies. Each one of them has more stars, much like our sun, than there are people on this planet! Yet, you are not insignificant. You are valuable, but your small thoughts, your limiting thoughts, are holding you back. You are part of this enormous universe, that was created by something. That something, also created you. You are a divine creation, as is everyone else on this planet. You are divine. Whatever is troubling you compared to the Universe is really small, but you are powerful beyond comprehension if you could only see who you really are. I will teach you how not to think small and this will change the circumstances in your life.
Carole King. Carole was born the same year as I, 1942. She wrote this song when she was feeling down long ago before she became famous. This song was picked up by a management company and given to a group called “The Drifters,” who recorded it in 1962. Carole went on to write many songs after that, such as, You’ve Got A Friend, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Crying In The Rain, Tapestry, etc. Carole felt her pain deeply. You can feel your pain deeply too.
Now, read the words of the song below. You might cry, but you are strong. Like Carole King, you can overcome. You can change your life.
Up on the Roof
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it’s peaceful as can be
And there the world below can’t bother me
Let me tell you now
When I come home feelin’ tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all that rat-race noise down in the street
On the roof, the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let’s go up on the roof
At night the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-tellin’ you
Right smack dab in the middle of town
I’ve found a paradise that’s trouble proof
And if this world starts getting you down
There’s room enough for two
Up on the roof
Oh, come on, baby
Oh, come on, honey
Everything is all right
